about
The original mix of this track was produced after I'd read The KLF's infamous book, The Manual: How to Have a Number One The Eady Way.
One of the first pieces of advice was to simply go into a studio and ask a producer/engineer to make the track for you.
I went into the (now closed) Warwick Hall of Sound in Cardiff where, at the time, Rohan Tarry worked. He is actually quite well renowned for producing the smash hit, 2 People by Jean Jaques Smoothie (he probably gets tired of people forever referencing this!).
I basically had the idea of getting a tune made featuring some of the words to the Stone Roses' classic b-side Standing Here. A local singer, Rachel Marie Kimber provided the vocal. We even intentionally made it the same length as the Roses' song.
A white label promo was produced, but sadly, I never managed to get this properly released as I couldn't find a label to release it (this turned out to be much harder than The Manual suggested).
A few years after the original and Jimpy mix were made, someone very kindly produced a new mix, and at this stage, I did get a PR company involved. A CD was now produced and circulated to DJs. The track was in a pre-release chart briefly, but still never had a proper release.
When the track was originally made, it was in the dark old days when The Stone Roses did not exist. When they got back together, I decided to make the track available again as a download.
With vinyl now popular again, I'm wondering there may be renewed interest in the promo white label, especially as Jimpy is getting back into DJing.
