about

This is the result of something like a 4 month project. The lyrics were first penned by Nick Fisk - former writer for Louderthanwar and author of Cardiff City based book, "The Blues Are Back in Town" - while on an ICU at (the now closed) Whitchurch Hospital, Cardiff early in 2016.

In spite of the fact that recording devices were not allowed on the ward, a version of the song was indeed recorded, and put to a very rough tune by a fellow patient on an acoustic guitar.

The WAV of this was sent to an American producer, Kyle Dunaway, via Upwork, who then set out to turn the song into a fully fledged recording with the remit to "make it sound something like The Stone Roses". A fantastic job of this was done in a matter of days, with Kyle coming up with the hook line, and recording all instruments himself.

This recording was then topped and tailed and sped up slightly. A local singer, Nick Russell (who sounds nothing like Ian Brown, but is nonetheless hugely talented), was brought in to re-record the vocal at Reel Time Recording Studio in Cardiff. This Nick also added some additional guitar work to beef up the ending. Meurig at Reel Time mastered the track into what you hear now. There is also the acoustic version that was produced and made in a similar way.

The plan had always been, and potentially still could be, for this track to come out as a 7" single. However, during Wales's "firebreak flockdown" 101 CD copies of the two versions of the song were produced and distributed to friends - mostly by knocking on their doors and presenting them - and given away as "firebreak freebies".
